The pickups come standard with a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine that delivers up to 200 horsepower. The powertrain has an EPA rating of 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The little powerhouse tows up to 3,500 pounds. When needing more power, choose a model equipped with the 3.6-liter, six-cylinder engine that provides up to 308 horsepower and tows up to 7,000 pounds. The larger engine has an EPA rating of 18 mpg around town and 25 mpg on the open road. Anyone preferring a Canyon that runs on diesel might choose the 2.8-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that achieves up to 181 horsepower and tows up to 7,700 pounds. The diesel offers the best mileage with an EPA rating of 20 mpg when making quick trips in town and 30 mpg when cruising on the highway. The four-cylinder and diesel engine pickups come with a six-speed automatic transmission. The six-cylinder engines come with an eight-speed automatic engine. All of the pickups have rear-wheel drive. However, four-wheel drive is an option.
The standard cab of the base Canyon model accommodates two passengers. But, the extended cab has two rear seats while the crew cab has a three-passenger bench seat. The GMC Canyon comes standard with an infotainment system featuring a seven-inch touchscreen. The system is equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone connectivity. The knobs on the system are strategically placed to be within reach of the driver if needed. Optional upgrades include HD radio, satellite radio and navigation capability. The stereo may be upgraded to a Bose system with seven-speakers. Converting the vehicle into a Wi-Fi hotspot is another option along with up to four USB ports and wireless charging.
The standard safety features include a rearview camera and the teen driver system that enables parents to set a speed limit and audio volume controls for younger drivers. The technology also monitors a teen's driving habits for later viewing. Optional features include rear parking sensors, forward collision alerts and lane departure warnings.
GMC Canyon SL
The Canyon SL trim levels come standard with the extended cab and two front bucket seats. The interior features vinyl upholstery and a four-way power-adjustable driver's seat. The infotainment has Bluetooth capability and there are two USB ports.
GMC Canyon SLE
The SLE adds a six-way power-adjustable driver's seat and an infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen. The system comes with HD radio and satellite radio. Other technological features enjoyed by owners include Wi-Fi hotspot capability, four USB ports, cruise control, keyless entry and a remote locking tailgate. The steering wheel is leather-wrapped. Upgrades include automatic climate control, remote engine start, heated front seats and a premium stereo system.
GMC Canyon SLT
The crew cab is standard on the SLT trim level along with the six-cylinder engine. The interior features leather upholstery, power-adjustable and heated front seats. The steering wheel is also heated. The side mirrors are also equipped with power-adjust and heating capability. Passengers stay cozy thanks to the automatic climate control. Other tech features include wireless charging, remote engine start and rear parking sensors. Infotainment system navigation capability and a Bose stereo are optional.
GMC Canyon All Terrain
The All Terrain level comes standard with 4WD and off-road suspension along with hill descent and a shielded transfer case. The rear differential locks. The front-end has two tow hooks. The interior and exterior have unique design elements.
GMC Canyon Denali
The elite Denali comes with a Bose stereo and navigation capability on the infotainment system. The Denali also adds ventilated front seats, forward collision and lane departure warnings. The exterior has chrome assist steps and a protective spray-on bed liner.
